This weekend 2 of my children will celebrate birthdays. Let's give thanks for our children.
"Dear Lord, the gift of children never gets old, even when it is trying. Days are difficult and tempers flare, yet I am constantly reminded of this very special gift you gave to us. In these trying times, remind me that these are not my children but yours that you entrusted in me to care for. Remind me that they are a gift from you and not a mere accident or creation of passion or love. Remind me that all that I do they see and watch, that all of the instruction I give will either point them towards you or away from you. Help me to be the parent you want me to be, to guide them towards you, and to enlighten them in your love.
Thank you for all of my children, for the stages of life they go through, for the tired nights and the exciting days. For the times when I do not feel like being a parent, but mostly for the times I do. Help me to understand and to appreciate the small things and the big ones. To appreciate all of their joy and all of their triumphs. Let me love them even when they do not return it and to be patient with them as they grow into adults. In your name I pray, Amen"
