Discerning God's Call on your Life

Often we associate a "calling" from God with only those who are in full time ministry; Pastors, Missionaries, Directors of Christian Education, etc. But We should remember that God calls all of us to certain tasks, and we all should seek his calling for our lives. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12: 1-11, we all have different gifts that God gives to us to use for "the common good". Let us pray that we will seek and discover our gifts and our calling.

Dear Lord, as I plan my day and my week, as I think about my life help me to listen to your will first and the desires of my heart last. Help me to seek your voice and to hear your word spoken to me as I try to serve you. Allow me to serve you with the gifts you have provided. I want to serve you, I want to be your advocate, but I struggle with how, and when.

I open myself to listen to your calling on my life, to speak to me in clear voices, from others, and from you. Help me to know with certainty what you want for me and what the desires of your heart are for me. Assist me in making your desires for me, my desires for myself. Let me use the gifts you have given me, not for my own personal good or gain but for the glory of your kingdom. Help me to have the courage to do what you are calling me to. With the courage of Abraham who followed your voice into unknown lands, help me to follow you wherever you are leading, with the confidence that it will lead to a promised land.
In your name I pray. Amen"
